Ribbon cut at Wayne’s Goudy Park
On July 29, 2026, Wayne Mayor Rhaesa cut the ribbon surrounded by dignitaries representing Federal, State, County, and City entities, for the new Goudy Park Amphitheater located in its town center. After generous grants from multiple sources, the former 30+ year-old concert venue will begin a new era of community gathering and development.
The former venue sat on top of a reservoir built in the early 1900s. It was deteriorating and posed a safety hazard. The space underneath the amphitheater was filled with water.
City Manager Diane Webb said, “Enormous kudos to Hennessey Engineers. When we started this process, I was told it would cost $2 million to fill a hole in the ground. He said, ‘that’s crazy’. He brought it in for under $400,000. There is no one I trust more than John Hennessey and Hennessey Engineers.”
The new pavilion has seating in front of the stage and includes an elevated stage area with ADA ramps for better access. Additional improvements include:
- Better lighting and power for events
- Decorative fencing
- Landscape buffer area
- Large planters on both sides of the plaza
- Floral concrete design with different colors and textures using stamped concrete, color concrete, and exposed aggregate concrete
