I-96 Bridges Replacement Project

MDOT's I-96 Bridges Replacement Project involves bridge replacement of eastbound and westbound I-96 over the Grand River and Billwood Highway with realignment of westbound I-96, bridge deck replacement on the I-96 structures over M-99, and deep overlays on the I-96 structures over Washington Avenue.

Hennessey Engineers project managers (from newly acquired Access Engineering, Inc., Oct. 2023) prepared the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans for the six structures. Extensive MOT design was required to coordinate the bridge and road work on this project. The MOT plans included the design of temporary pavement / widening and median crossovers. The team also designed the bridge approach pavement for the eastbound and westbound I-96 structures over Washington Avenue. Hennessey Engineers continues to provide as-needed design assistance during construction of this project.

Services included: MOT design, final pavement markings, road design of bridge approach, pavement on eastbound and westbound I-96 over Washington Avenue.
