Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Expansion

The challenge of creating a 775 ft. pier and floating dock extending into the Detroit River—part of The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Expansion—was executing all construction staking activities underwater.

This was accomplished by setting up a primary location on a barge for carrying the steel sheet pile piers and utilizing a smaller boat to assist with placing a precast template at each pier location. Underwater construction staking was performed to place the steel sheet pile piers to support the decking of the fishing pier and the connection point for the floating dock.
