Goudy Park Amphitheater Amps Up

Dignitaries representing Federal, State, County, and City entities broke ground in Wayne, Michigan, August 4, 2025, for the new Goudy Park Amphitheater located in its town center. After generous grants from multiple sources, the former 30+ year-old concert venue will receive necessary improvements and will mark the first phase in a multi-year plan for community development.

City Manager Diane Webb said, “We are so grateful for the cooperation and collaboration among the levels of government that worked together to make this happen. Improvements to Goudy Park will allow Wayne residents and visitors the ability to enjoy concerts, outdoor events, and time with family and friends.”

“I’d also like to thank John Hennessey and Hennessey Engineers for their work on this project. His team helped shaved off significant design/build costs and saved the city nearly $1.8 million in anticipated costs.”

The former venue sat on top of a reservoir built in the early 1900s. It was deteriorating and posed a safety hazard. The new pavilion is to be moved to the southern area of the former site for more seating in front of the stage and will include an elevated stage area with ADA ramps for better access. Additional improvements include:

  • Better lighting and power for events
  • Decorative fencing
  • Landscape buffer area
  • Large planters on both sides of the plaza
  • Floral concrete design with different colors and textures using stamped concrete, color concrete, and exposed aggregate concrete

Construction has begun and Phase I is expected to be completed by the end of September 2025. Additional phases of improvement include a new playground, splash pad, picnic pavilions, connected walking trails, boardwalk overlook improvements, and riverfront improvements.
